Posted at 5/27/2017 04:44:00 PM Hui Lau Shan is not your simple, average blended mango juice. According to South East Asia General Manager, Pan Vui Shang, Hui Lau Shan is a mango dessert that is nothing complicated yet not easy to prepare. With over 50 and more years being in the dessert market, each Hui Lau Shan outlet around the world is designed so that patrons can take a peek into their fruit bar and watch the people behind the scenes creating the dessert that is loved through generations. Hui Lau Shan Healthy dessert chain recently entered into East Malaysia at Viva City Shopping Mall Kuching, and while it is the first here, it is their 20th store around Malaysia. Malaysians have been raving for their dessert since opening of stores at West Malaysia, and Kuchingnites can now enjoy it as much as they like with just a drive to Viva City Shopping Mall.
My verdict : We were served with mango pop, mango sago, mango pudding, both mango and durian mochi and both mango and durian pancakes. FYI Mango Sago is Hui Lau Shan first dessert that made the whole healthy dessert store chain change back in the 90s. It was the first leap from guillingao and other traditional chinese herbal desserts, to something new, something that people had not seen before. The mango sago was well received then, and people loved the dessert.
Among the desserts I tried, I personally prefer Mango Sago for the balance of taste between sweet and sour. Apart from that, I also prefer the durian pancake. I loved it so much that I went back the next day to grab a box myself.
Hui Lau Shan upholds their standard from day 1, and their mangoes and durians are curated carefully to better serve their patrons. The tangy mangoes are from Thailand and Phillipines while, their durians are from our homeland - Malaysia. Best is, they only take the best of the best Durian which is the D24. Therefore, their durian pancake is so flavourful that you actually feel like you are eating the real thing. The smell is strong definitely, and it gives you the same feeling of eating the durian especially after your burp.
The next best thing to try is their curry fishball - the snack is a famous Hong Kong street snack. Dip with curry, the fish ball although it is like any familiar food we have in Malaysia but the taste of the curry leave off a distinct taste on the taste buds simultaneously introducing us to an unfamiliar culture that is Hong Kong.
